Get started

Create or restore an account, save the phrase, send a first message, and find Settings.

Open Raven. Create a new account or restore one with the 25-word recovery phrase. Write that phrase on paper before you send anything. Nobody can reset it, including us.

First chat

  1. Copy your invite from Messages, or share your Algorand address.
  2. Your friend opens Raven, creates or restores an account, then pastes your address into New message.
  3. Send a short hello. Words stay private. Who you messaged, when, and roughly how long stay public on Algorand.

Add a little ALGO to your Raven address first so Raven can publish your messaging key. A basic account keeps 0.1 ALGO as its network reserve. A short message is usually about 0.001 ALGO in network fees. While Raven is in public beta, each ALGO send is capped at 5 ALGO.

Where things are

  • Your ALGO total stays in the top bar next to your address, on every signed-in screen.
  • The gear opens Settings: recovery phrase, Extra lock defaults, Pinata, lock, and forget device.
  • Tap your shortened address to copy the full one. Lock is in the side rail or Settings.
  • The sun or moon only switches light and dark. It is not Settings.

Post-quantum signing

Everyday signing is the default. Settings can turn on post-quantum signing and keep this chat address. You keep the same 25 words. That address still sends every message. A second signing address authorizes each send. The signing address can hold 0 ALGO; fees still come from your Raven address. Later sends cost about 0.003 ALGO. Settings shows the signing address so you can open it in a block explorer. In the explorer, your Raven account is rekeyed to that signer.

That change only authorizes sends. Chat contents still use everyday encryption. Extra lock is a separate shared secret.

Checking the box when you create or restore is different: that makes a new Raven address from the same words. Notes and chats on the old address stay there. To keep an address you already use, restore without the box, then turn signing on in Settings.
